about

The steampunk airship Manawatu rides the thermals, bringing good times to everybody in the form of cake, beer and rum. Traditional Celtic instruments (tin whistle, Irish tenor banjo) are backed by a powerhouse heavy rock rhythm section.

lyrics

Chorus:
We're lovers, not fighters, we're coming for you
Flying the airship Manawatū

On the quarterdeck stood our captain so fair
Strong and sure of purpose
we rose through the air and the ship breached the clouds
like a whale at the ocean's surface

We loosed from our mooring at the break of day
The wind was in the rigging
Down in the engine room where nobody could see
the stokers were quietly swigging
Chorus

The gasbag lifted our jaunty ship, with twenty five souls all told
The brass fittings gleamed as we slid through the air
Treasure was piled in the hold

The ship had a cat, and a fine cat he was
name of Crotchety Dave
He caught any rats that were hiding in the hold
and kept our victuals safe
Chorus

The First Mate was a woman of good cheer
Bold and strong and hearty
She'd recite the naughty bits from the Canterbury Tales
whenever she was at a party

The only weapons that our ship had aboard were cake and beer and rum
The skirling cry of the whistle so spry
and the beating of the drum
Chorus

The lookout spied a settlement
The captain yelled and the order went
We swooped from the sky, and before they knew
The people were partying with the crew
of the Manawatū

We float through the sky in our airship so fine
Sharing our payload of fun
Spreading good cheer and an ocean of beer
Then flying off into the sun
Chorus
